Bobby Rush...2017 GRAMMY winning blues legend, 2006 Blues Hall of Fame Inductee, 10x Blues Music Award winner, B.B. King Entertainer of the Year!

“…the man known as ‘The King of the Chitlin Circuit’… a man who deserves being mentioned in the same context as the blues greats Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson, and B.B. King.” – American Blues Scene

Bobby Rush is the greatest bluesman currently performing. “Porcupine Meat” (released 2016) is a testament to his brilliance, which presents him at his very best, and doesn’t try to be anything that he is not. “I just try to record good music and stories,” he humbly states. With this recording, he has more than accomplished his goal, and has produced one of the finest contemporary blues albums in recent times.

Bobby truly is one of the last of the GREATS of his generation still performing and Music by the Bay Live is excited and honoured to be presenting him this August in Ajax.

Spectrasonic and Clyde River Productions present
Robert Cray
Algonquin Commons Theatre, 1385 Woodroffe Avenue
Friday, August 25; doors @ 7 pm, show @ 8 pm; tickets $50-$59.50

Open ears and an open mind are the essence of singer, guitarist and songwriter Robert Cray’s approach to writing, recording and playing music. He has created a sound that rises from American roots and arrives today both fresh and familiar. In just over 40 years Cray and his band have recorded 20 studio releases, 15 of which have been on the Billboard charts, and played bars, concert halls, festivals and arenas around the world. There are five Grammys with Cray’s name on them, and he has a suitcase full of W.C. Handy blues awards. Four years ago, Cray was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame.

On August 28, the Mascot Label Group will celebrate the vibrancy of the Cray Band’s rocking rootsy blues, soul-filled ballads and timeless R&B with the release of “4 Nights of 40 Years Live”. Through clips of concerts from the ‘80s and four recent shows, the evolution from the Cray Band unfolds. Comments by Cray and band members add depth. And interviews with Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Bonnie Raitt, Jimmie Vaughan and Buddy Guy put the band in perspective. The 3-piece set will be available in a variety of formats – 2 LPs + Mp3, 2 CDs + DVD, Blu-Ray + 2 CDs and digitally.

The multimedia “4 Nights of 40 Years Live” is a testament to the band’s longevity and vitality. The '80s concert footage is exuberant and shows the charisma of Young Bob (a reference in song that Cray makes to himself in homage to Muddy Waters calling himself Young Muddy) as a guitarist, vocalist and band leader. The live performances at recent concerts capture seasoned musicians bringing a vivid, illustrative past into the moment. Cray’s Stratocaster solos sing, cry and take on the funk. His voice has grown richer and wiser yet remains sweet.

It is extraordinary for musicians to thrive over four decades, and the Robert Cray Band is just that, an extraordinary story of success.

You can show up at 'the gate' (cash only) but call/email ahead of time to ensure that there will be room for you. We don't want to turn anyone away but, seriously, space is limited and we want everyone to be comfortable for this all-day affair.

Looking for accommodation? The Clarion Hotel & Conference Centre in Fort Erie is holding a limited number of rooms for our attendees at a significantly reduced rate for both Saturday and Sunday. This is the last long weekend of the summer and rates are elevated everywhere so we're extremely grateful to the Clarion for their fabulous support over the last few years. Michael & Louise Pickett
Terry Gillespie
Centrepointe Theatre (Studio), 100 Centrepointe Drive
Friday, September 8 @ 7:30 pm; tickets $39.50

Terry and His Super Tight Band will be performing at Centrepointe Theatre. The band is really looking forward to playing such an acoustic fit room. It is a treat for them! Opening the show will be Vince Halfhide playing an intimate set of originals and interpretations - how nice is that! The plan is to take you back to the roots of Ottawa Blues first played by Heaven's Radio in 1969 in Ottawa, some say the first band in Canada to do that! This band is not about guitar heroes but straight up Blues played old school. Alright!

Saying all that, Terry has spent the last year developing new material, including a new CD 'Home Boy', a new look for his website terrygillespie.ca and one of the most difficult and time-consuming projects was participating in the documentary: Mr. Groove. It is 7 minutes long and was a joint project between Richard Flohil and film maker, Booker Sim, Terry’s son with interviews by Sue Foley, Holger Petersen and Richard Flohil himself.

Other reasons we are celebrating are:
• Terry's 55th year playing professionally
•  49 years back in Canada
• 70th year as a human
I figure that as long as he can and wants to drive he can travel and play, but we now look at each tour for fun and ease. Why not! Everyone sez he sounds and plays ' better than ever'. Alright!

The show at The Centrepointe also kicks off Terry's 2017 solo Western Tour.
