SPECIAL EVENTS COMING SOON
***************************
Ghost Town Blues Band
Irene’s Pub, 855 Bank Street
Wednesday, July 12; 8-11 pm

Beale Street’s latest success story, 2016 Independent Blues Award winner for "Best Contemporary Blues Song", 2015 Blues Blast Music Award Nominee for “Best Blues Band” and 2014 International Blues Challenge Runner-up is Ghost Town Blues Band. Not your grandpa’s blues band, their live show has been captivating audiences in the U.S. and Canada with a second-line horn entrance, cigar box guitars and electric push brooms to Allman Brothers style jams and even a hip-hop trombone player.

Horns, harmonies and homegrown instruments combined with an energetic and roots rich festival set makes Ghost Town Blues Band one of the “must see live bands on the festival circuit today.” Both Preston McEwen behind the drums and Matt Karner on the bass guitar are a punishing rhythm section behind multi-instrumentalist/frontman Matt Isbell with raunchy cigar box guitar licks and raspy "Dr. John-like, whiskey and gravel-soaked vocals." With the addition of Trombonist Suavo Jones, Tim Stanek on B3 and Taylor Orr on lead guitar, the grooves go from funky to "funk-nasty" as the band gains more notoriety in the blues festival and jam circuit. Ghost Town Blues Band performed all across North America at over 24 festivals in 2016 and already have 20 festivals and 5 international tours booked for 2017.

Soulstack
With special guest Sue Foley
Rainbow Bistro, 76 Murray Street
Friday, July 21

Soulstack delivers a visceral experience; one of seasoned musicians playing the music of their roots with authentic realism. It’s the sound of Staples Singers-inspired southern harmony, tremolo-drenched baritone guitar, with a late-sixties New Orleans-style rhythm section and the gurgle of a Hammond organ driving it along with the unmistakable and distinctive voice of Jon Knight. Soulstack is: Jon Knight (Vocal/Guitar), Mark Wessenger (Vocal/Piano/Organ), Chris Latta (Guitar / Baritone), Darryl ‘Harpo’ Peterson (Bass), Tom Bona (Drums), and Michael Francis (saxophone).
Multi-award winning guitarist, singer & songwriter, Sue Foley will be joining Soulstack as their special guest. Sue has recently completed her latest recording “The Ice Queen”.

Bobby Rush is the greatest bluesman currently performing. “Porcupine Meat” (released 2016) is a testament to his brilliance, which presents him at his very best, and doesn’t try to be anything that he is not. “I just try to record good music and stories,” he humbly states. With this recording, he has more than accomplished his goal, and has produced one of the finest contemporary blues albums in recent times.
