Music By The Bay Live
presents
Chicago Plays The
Stones
16 Main Street S.,
Uxbridge ON
Friday, November 29 @
8 pm; advance tickets $70 + HST + fees
Chicago
guitar-slinger and vocalist, Ronnie Baker Brooks and Chicago harmonica
master and vocalist Billy Branch, among today’s foremost inheritors of the
Chicago blues tradition and keepers of the flame, unite live on-stage to give
the songs of the Rolling Stones a remarkable rebirth. Brooks and Branch strip those
rock songs down to their Chicago blues essence and bring the songs of Jagger-Richards
back to their spiritual home and their point of origin.
There is no more
seminal association in the history of rock and pop music than those ties that
bind Chicago’s electric blues with the Rolling Stones. They modeled their
sound on the gritty, urban electrified and amplified music of Muddy
Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Jimmy Reed, Little Walter and other Chicago blues
pioneers. Through the lens of this musical kinship that has changed modern popular
music and culture across the globe, CHICAGO PLAYS THE STONES takes
audiences on a powerful musical journey that will delight and thrill lovers of
the blues, fans of The Rolling Stones, and general music audiences alike.
The Concert: CHICAGO
PLAYS THE STONES is an exhilarating, high-energy live stage performance
that presents its audience with classic Rolling Stones songs arranged
in the Chicago blues styles ranging from the early-traditional to modern- contemporary.
Performances also include
songs from the 1940s Mississippi Delta by a young Muddy Waters up
through the ground-breaking electrification of the country blues in Chicago by
Waters and other pioneering Windy City blues artists. These blues sounds that
traveled from the deep south up north to Chicago were the musical DNA that put
the young Brits squarely on the path to become The Rolling Stones, the
group that would eventually, with the Chicago blues at it core, have a lasting
effect on rock and pop music.
Imagine the classic Rolling
Stones songs as played by their Chicago blues heroes of the Golden Age such as Muddy
Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Little Walter, Jimmy Reed, Willie Dixon or Sonny Boy
Williamson. What would those songs sound like? Would they sound retro?
Contemporary? Or, something new?
We invite you to a
unique concert event featuring today’s greatest Chicago blues artists to
discover the answer to those questions. We invite you to travel back to the
future to experience CHICAGO PLAYS THE STONES.

The Last Waltz – A Musical
Celebration of the Band
16 Main Street S., Uxbridge
ON
Saturday, November 30
@ 8 pm; advance tickets $65 + HST + fees
By
popular demand, one of Ontario’s most talked about acts returns to Music by the
Bay Live. This all-star Canadian cast of award-winning blues and roots
musicians, under the direction of Juno award winning producer and musical director, Lance
Anderson, will be playing The Uxbridge Music Hall on November 30, celebrating
the 43rd Anniversary of THE BAND’s last concert in 1976 and The BAND’s amazing
contribution to our shared Canadian musical heritage.
This
is an all-star line-up, featuring Jerome Levon Avis (Levon Helm’s godson), on
drums and vocals with special guests and a nine-piece band led by Maple Blues
2014 ‘Keyboardist of the Year’ Lance Anderson. The performance will recreate
the atmosphere of The Band’s final concert, which was captured in Martin
Scorcese’s award-winning concert film, The Last Waltz.
On
the American Thanksgiving of 1976 at San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom, The
BAND performed what they called their “Last Waltz,” and invited many of
their friends to join in the celebration. These friends included Bob Dylan,
Ronnie Hawkins, Van Morrison, and Canadians Neil Young and Joni
Mitchell and others who performed with The Band on this special night.
In
this homage to The Last Waltz, Anderson’s special guests will perform the songs
played and sung by these guest artists at the memorable 1976 concert.
Backed by a 9-piece band that includes Jerome Levon Avis, Terry Blersh on
guitar, Dennis Pinhorn (The Hawks) on bass, Rob Gusevs (Blood, Sweat and Tears)
on organ and Anderson (Joint Chiefs of Soul) on piano and vocals, this is
a group of seasoned veterans who love the music. Anderson’s band also features
a stellar four-piece horn section including David Dunlop (Boss Brass) on
trumpet, Gord Meyers (Blood, Sweat and Tears) on trombone and tuba, Chris
Murphy (The Maple Blues Band) on tenor sax and Simon Wallis (Lighthouse) on
baritone sax. An all-star band!
The
Band is a Canadian national treasure, with four members of the legendary roots
music group originally from southern Ontario. In the 1960s, they were initially
brought together as “The Hawks” by Ronnie Hawkins and later gained international
recognition as Bob Dylan’s band on his ground-breaking electric tours. This 120
minute performance of The Last Waltz includes a wide selection of fan
favourites, such as The Band’s ‘The Weight’, ’The Night They Drove Ol’ Dixie Down’,
‘Up On Cripple Creek’, ‘Life is a Carnival’, ‘The Shape I’m In’, ‘Rag Mama
Rag’, ‘It Makes No Difference’, ‘Ophelia’ and many more.
Please
note, artists performing subject to change.

This
year we celebrate our 15th Anniversary season - making BOTR one
of the longest running and best Blues Series in the country. We've put together
another fabulous Line-Up of some of Canada's best Blues
artists - nominees and winners of Juno Awards, Maple Blues Awards,
American Blues Music Award, Western Canadian Music Award and more - bringing
back some of the all time favourites who have played the Series over
the years plus a few great new ones.
Visit www.BluesOnTheRideau.ca for more details including artists' Bios, LINKS to their websites and You Tubes.
Then check your calendars, make your choices and RESERVE NOW to be sure you don't miss out on the shows. This is particularly true if you want to STAY OVERNIGHT. All the rooms at The Cove; nearby B&Bs and the Westport Station Motel usually sell out in advance on BOTR nights.
You will note that there has been a SMALL INCREASE in the ticket price this year - from $65 pp to $70 pp (plus HST). This is the first price increase in 5 years and is necessary to cover the increased costs of just about everything - food, drink, staff, band and Sound Engineer fees, advertising, printing costs and more.
However, when you consider the quality of the meal, the venue, the ambiance and the incredible LIVE music on these nights and compare it to just about anything else this is still one of - if not THE - best entertainment value in eastern Ontario - make that the country!
Also note that there are 2 TWO NIGHT STAND shows this season – October and January - giving those who have difficulty in making the Friday night shows more chances to come out on Saturday nights!
And we've added a show in DECEMBER this year - December 13 with multiple Juno Award winners MONKEYJUNK. If you want a great place to have your Christmas Party this would be it! Book early!

Ghost
Town Blues Band
Irene’s
Pub, 885 Bank Street
Wednesday,
December 11; 8 pm – 11:30 pm; $15
Not
your grandpa’s blues band, Ghost Town Blues Band’s live show has been
captivating audiences in the U.S., Canada and Europe with their "second-line
horn entrance", cigar box guitars and electric push brooms to Allman Brothers
style jams and even a hip-hop trombone player. The band's stage show and energy
is unparalleled and has been called the best new live blues show in the world.
Horns, harmonies and homegrown instruments combined with an energetic and roots rich festival set makes Ghost Town Blues Band one of the “must see live bands on the festival scene today.” Both Andrew McNeill behind the drums and Matt Karner on the bass guitar are a punishing rhythm section behind multi-instrumentalist/frontman Matt Isbell with raunchy cigar box guitar licks and raspy "Dr. John-like, whiskey and gravel-soaked vocals." With the addition of Trombonist Suavo Jones, Cedric Taylor on B3 and Taylor Orr on lead guitar, the grooves go from fresh to funky as the band gains more notoriety in the blues festival and jam circuit. Ghost Town Blues Band has performed all across US and Canada at over 100+ festivals and will perform more than a half-dozen international tours in Canada and Europe in 2019.

NAC Presents
Christmas with Matt
Andersen & friends
NAC Southam Hall
Friday, December 20 @
8 pm; tickets start at $35
The
Festival of Small Halls and NAC Presents are happy to bring back the wildly
popular Christmas with Matt Andersen. Join us for holiday
favourites and even some surprises!
Recorded live
off the floor in Nashville, Tennessee, celebrated songwriter Matt Andersen’s
tenth album, “Halfway Home by Morning”, collects all the essential elements for
a down-home ramble. Over its lucky 13 tracks, he explores every facet of his
sound—sweat-soaked soul, incendiary rhythm and blues, heartbroken folk, and
gritty Americana—in the Southern Ground studio, the same spot that legends like
Neil Young, Emmylou Harris, and Jerry Lee Lewis recorded. The album is as
honest and compromise free as anything he’s ever done.
The native
New Brunswicker has proven time and time again, on stages everywhere from clubs
to theatres, that he’s the genuine article. Andersen is a powerhouse performer
with a giant, soul-filled voice and commanding stage presence, and has built a
formidable following the old-fashioned way: touring worldwide and letting his
stunned audiences and new devotees spread the good word of his righteous tunes
all over.

were in the theaters, the Rolling Stones had the Altamont fiasco and Led
Zeppelin burst onto the scene with their first two albums. With so much good
music being released that year (CSN, Santana, Led Zep, Blind Faith, Johnny
Winters – all first albums!), the Beatles released “Abbey Road” and “Yellow
Submarine” and the Stones put out “Let it Bleed”, and the list goes on and on!
