Home: On the road, somewhere… Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne — resplendent in a brightly coloured, French custom-tailored stage suit — hammers out rockin’ boogie woogie, deeply felt blues, and puts a fresh coat of paint on good old-fashioned roots rock and roll. Now with a brand new album, “An Old Rock on a Roll” on the Stony Plain label, he’s on the road again.
He’s been a traveling musician almost all his life, playing in show bands and cover bands in his youth, seeing the world from Texas to Hawaii and from Peoria to Paris. Rediscovering his own blues roots long ago sent his career into overdrive, thanks to his fresh approach to old music, the drive and roaring good-time attitude of his live performances, and his smartly original self-penned songs. Deeply influenced by Fats Domino and Johnnie Johnson, Kenny Wayne’s other heroes include keyboard rockers whose names are beginning to fade into history — men such as Amos Milburn and Bill Doggett, both long overdue for rediscovery by the new generations of blues fans.

Garrett Mason is a true bluesman at heart. He was raised in Truro NS by his mother, Pam and father, veteran Canadian Bluesman Dutch Mason. His quest to become a blues musician started at a very early age; being surrounded by music and especially blues music, Garrett’s favourite tapes at three years old were Canned Heat and Buddy Rich. His list of influences is long indeed and topping that list are blues legends Albert Collins and Albert King. What really sealed the deal for Garrett to become a blues guitarist was seeing a video of Stevie Ray Vaughn “Live At the El Mocambo” – he was hooked! His first CD, “I’m Just A Man”, won the 2005 Juno Award in the Blues category ... an impressive accomplishment for a debut. His 2nd CD “Love and Sound” was also Juno-nominated.
At the age of twenty-one, home-grown blues wonder Keith Hallett has already become a household name in the East Coast blues community. He won the 2007 CBC Galaxie Rising Star Award, and was nominated for Maple Blues Award for new artist of the year. He competed in the 2009 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN, and has hit the blues festival circuit hard in the last couple years, including several packed shows in past years at Harvest. He may be one of the youngest bluesmen currently on the scene, but you'd never be able to tell from listening to his howlin', growlin' and soulful vocals, and impressive guitar licks and slides. His 2008 debut album “Bear With Me” was heralded as "head and shoulders above at least half the blues discs that have come out this year by older veterans." Keith continues to build momentum, which is no surprise once you've seen what this astonishing young player can do!
Both artists are favourites of Canadian Rock mogul, Gordie Johnson, the musician and producer, former front man of Big Sugar. Keith Hallett is only 21 years old, but has been playing major festivals and earning respect since coming on the scene with a New Artist nomination at the 2008 Maple Blues Awards when he was 17. Mason is quite recognized in the industry, winning a Juno for his first album in 2005, amongst other awards, and has been nominated in multiple categories at the Maple Blues Awards every year since 2004.
This Mason-Hallett mash-up delivers a very dynamic show that moves along at a steady pace, offering lean mean grooves and funky dance tunes. The performance is characterized by Mason and Hallett's phenomenal guitar playing, with some unexpected new twists, and overall world class musicianship.
The Garrett Mason and Keith Hallett Show will perform songs from Keith Hallett's unreleased album, produced by Garrett Mason. The album is being released in September 2011 at the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival in Fredericton, NB.

Andrea Ramolo and her one-man band Jason Skiendziel will cross the country for the 4th time in two years, bringing her brand new FACTOR supported release "The Shadows... and the Cracks" and her soulful live duo show to Kaffé 1870 in Wakefield.
The album demonstrates a sensitivity and strength, with honest tales of love, longing, sorrow, and human relationships – many of them inspired by “the ride.” Andrea’s gritty voice — softened occasionally by the vulnerability that comes from road-weariness and the distance from friends and family — is both unique and memorable; some of the best session players in Canada provide powerful support.
Musically, she’s been described as the antidote to too much Joni Mitchell, a tougher Dolly Parton a sexier Janis Joplin, but she has a soulful and sultry sound that’s all her own. There is an intimacy in her music that is both candid and unapologetic. Her beautifully woven narratives and raw delivery pull you in, force you to smile, break your heart, and mend it all over again. She’s a born performer and has been described as fearless, emotional, and confident. And you may even catch her tap dancing at one of her live shows.
Her ‘one-man band’, Jason Skiendziel, has been a major part of the ride as accompanist, companion and alternate driver; he plays bass, mandolin and several other instruments as well.
And she’ll be back in Ottawa at Irene’s on June 28.

Bold, brawny, often dazzling guitar lines are matched with confident, soul drenched vocals. Larry is a powerhouse performer with a band to match.
If contemporary blues has a long term future as we boldly venture into the 21st century, it's very likely that guitarist Larry McCray will play a recurring role in its ongoing development.
McCray's first influence on guitar was none other than his sister, Clara, who toured regionally around Arkansas with her own combo, the Rockets. Clara never got to record her Freddie King-styled blues for posterity -- but her little brother has at least partially made up for that omission. Larry followed Clara up to Saginaw, MI, in 1972. She turned him on to the joys of the three Kings (B.B., Freddie and Albert), Albert Collins, and Magic Sam, and Larry added superheated rock licks to his arsenal as he began playing the local circuit with his brothers Carl on bass and Steve on drums.
Working on General Motors' assembly line occupied a great deal of Larry’s time after he finished high school. But he eventually found enough free hours to put together “Ambition”, his 1991 debut album for Pointblank, in a Detroit friend's basement studio. The stunning set was a convincing hybrid of blues, rock, and soul, combining the interrelated idioms in sizzling fashion. Suddenly, the stocky young guitarist was touring with label-mate Albert Collins. His 1993 Pointblank encore, “Delta Hurricane” was a slicker affair that he much prefers to his homemade debut.

exciting community event to celebrate the official naming of Jeff Healey Park (formerly Woodford Park) and to unveil the new Park Sign in honour of Jeff Healey.
This renaming by Etobicoke York Community Council in April is a special tribute to the late Jeff Healey who grew up in Etobicoke, and played in this park both as a teenager and with his young children.
The event's organizing committee has planned various children's activities, a community barbecue, Craig Douglas, Comic Juggler, live music entertainment by the Jerome Godboo and Friends, Danny Marks, and Jeff Healey's Jazz Wizards.
Joining us will be special guest speaker, Christie Healey, widow of Jeff Healey and many members of Jeff's family.
Jeff Healey, backed by his blues band, The Jeff Healey Band, was one of Canada's and the world's most celebrated rock, blues and jazz guitarists. He later toured with the Jazz Wizards, playing American jazz from the 20s, 30s and early 40s.

Ottawa’s Shout Sister!” choir is making a “joyful noise” for Ottawa Soup Sisters. Directed by Jody Benjamin, the choir is full of enthusiasm and energy. It is infectious fun; come and catch the bug!
Shout Sister! takes an unorthodox and enjoyable approach to choral singing. The focus is on relaxing and having fun while singing a wide range of popular music. Audiences delight at their selection of pop tunes with lots of Canadian content. There are no auditions and new members of all ages are welcome at any time. Our members enjoy fellowship and mutual support in addition to joyful singing. Jody directs two choirs, one in Ottawa Centre and the other in Ottawa West, and they are joining forces for their first spring fundraiser. The choirs support a local charity every spring with the focus on women and children. They sing at area Seniors’ homes and welcome invitations to support local fundraisers throughout the year.
Soup Sister events are hands-on, soup-making gatherings that culminate in the provision of hundreds of nourishing bowls of soup delivered to women and children residing in the Interval House of Ottawa. They are also deeply committed to raising awareness about domestic abuse and family violence. A shelter representative addresses every Soup Sisters group, providing an overview of the many healing and prevention programs available at the shelter. Dylan Wickens and the Grand Naturals

Dylan Wickens, Cassius Pereira and Harpo Peterson joined to make both The Grand Naturals and also the Little Naturals in 2009. The Grands are a four piece contemporary sounding version of the Little Nats, which is a more traditional blues sound delivered in trio format.
Wickens has won the Toronto Blues Society Talent Search (twice!) in his previous bands, Dylan Wickens Band and also Wickens & Knight. In 2006 he also received a nomination for New Artist of the Year at the Maple Blues Awards.
Cassius Pereira has toured the world extensively, beginning his playing career with friend Philip Sayce before moving on to occupy the drum chair with The Jeff Healey Band, George Leach, and eventually found himself playing drums for a lengthy spell with contemporary country pop artist, Johnny Reid.
Harpo Peterson has provided the bottom end for numerous artists, notably Tony Springer, Wickens & Knight, David Wilcox and Philip Sayce.
Tortoise Blue adds organ and harmonica to the band. Tortoise is a JUNO Award Winner for his work with ex-Big Daddy G, and a Maple Blues Award Winner for "Harmonica Player of the Year".

Both artists are favourites of Canadian Rock mogul, Gordie Johnson, the musician and producer, former front man of Big Sugar. Keith Hallett is only 21 years old, but has been playing major festivals and earning respect since coming on the scene with a New Artist nomination at the 2008 Maple Blues Awards when he was 17. Mason is quite recognized in the industry, winning a Juno for his first album in 2005, amongst other awards, and has been nominated in multiple categories at the Maple Blues Awards every year since 2004.
This Mason-Hallett mash-up delivers a very dynamic show that moves along at a steady pace, offering lean mean grooves and funky dance tunes. The performance is characterized by Mason and Hallett's phenomenal guitar playing, with some unexpected new twists, and overall world class musicianship.
The Garrett Mason and Keith Hallett Show will perform songs from Keith Hallett's unreleased album, produced by Garrett Mason. The album is being released in September 2011 at the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival in Fredericton, NB.

concert 1: Roxanne Potvin
Solo is a cross-cultural music project which showcases talented artists from the Ottawa region, Ontario and Quebec. Tonight, we're inside the theatre of La Nouvelle Scène in downtown Ottawa where we welcome artist Roxanne Potvin, a talented Quebec-based singer, songwriter and vocalist. Roxanne started playing gigs at the age of 19, playing mostly blues clubs in Ottawa and eventually playing blues events and festivals in Quebec and the Toronto area. Now 28, Roxanne has been busy compiling her own musical vocabulary. The passion and heart of the blues remain an integral part of her music. She is now embarking in a different direction with her music; her latest album, No Love for the Poisonous, includes funky New Orleans grooves to alternative pop styles. The band is a small cast of stellar musicians and good friends: Roxanne Potvin on vocals and guitar, Christine Bougie on guitar and lap steel, Roger Travassos on drums and Mark McIntyre on bass. Together, they create an intimate setting for the songs to soar.
concert 2: Rick Taylor
Rick Taylor is a fine blues-based singer-songwriter currently revving up his solo performing career in Ontario after many years on the west coast. His musical accomplishments go a lot farther back than that, though: his first significant solo gig was at the Mariposa Festival in 1971; he went on to be Willie P. Bennett's guitarist for some time, and was a sideman for a host of other artists including Stan Rogers and Colleen Peterson. Rick's guitar playing was an early source of inspiration for the likes of Colin Linden, and for Tom Wilson of Blackie and The Rodeo Kings. And now his inspired songwriting is showcased in a pair of solo albums: The Wonky Years (2008) and Lucky Room (2010). For this concert, recorded at Fenian Films in Hamilton, ON, Rick is joined by the latest incarnation of the Rick Taylor Band, anchored by the legendary Toronto-based rhythm section of Terry Wilkins on bass and Bucky Berger on drums.

Long John Baldry: In the Shadow of the Blues (2006)
The life and legacy of guitarist and singer Long John Baldry is examined in this one-hour documentary. Baldry played a key role in the growth of the British rhythm and blues movement, and led bands in the mid-1960s that featured Rod Stewart and Elton John, both of whom are interviewed in the documentary. In the ‘80s, Baldry emigrated to Canada, living first in Toronto and then in Vancouver, where he died in 2005.
