The
Fluffy Little Cowboys
The Juke Joint Soul
Kitchen, Carp ON
Friday, June 22 @ 8
pm
The
women in Fluffy Little Cowboys are no angels; what they are is a fiery, focused
trio with an eclectic sound that’s incredibly compelling but almost impossible
to categorize.
Some call it alternative East Coast, but you’ll also hear tinges of country, roots, trad, and blues … then there’s the rhythmic spoken word and punk rock piss-and-vinegar. Trying to identify every influence is like trying to pick out every poke of a full-sleeve tattoo.
The Fluffy’s recent album, “No Angel”, was produced by PEI wunderkind Nathan Wiley and features Doobie Brothers drummer Ed Toth, the lyrical content is weighty, tackling combustible subjects head-on, hitting like a musical Molotov cocktail; however, at their core is a message of empowerment & inclusion.

EVENTS COMING SOON

Ry Cooder & His Band
Centrepointe Theatre, 101 Centrepointe
Drive
Wednesday, June 27 @ 8 pm; tickets
$91.50-$106.50
Ry Cooder is
an American musician, songwriter, film score composer, and record producer. He
is a multi-instrumentalist but is best known for his slide guitar-work, his
interest in roots music from the United States, and his collaborations with
traditional musicians from many countries.
Cooder's solo work draws upon many genres. Few musical artists of the past half century have introduced us to so many great songs; from so many rich musical traditions as has Ry Cooder. Whether they are choice nuggets from the early American blues catalogue, or gems from the birthing years of Rock & Roll or Rhythm & Blues; or Tex-Mex classics, African Blues or pre-Castro Cuban Music (Buena Vista Social Club), Ry Cooder has provided us with the most heartfelt and virtuosic of performances.
While many got to see Ry Cooder perform in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, it has been a rare occurrence to see him since. His 1981 shows at U of T’s Convocation Hall were voted “the best concerts of the year” by all three Toronto newspapers, the Star, the Globe & Mail and the Toronto Sun. This is the only time all three papers would agree on their choice.
Cooder performed at Centrepointe Theatres in 2016 with Ricky Skaggs and Sharon White, with two sold-out shows but this will be the first time he brings us an evening of essential Ry Cooder music to Ottawa. On June 27th, Ry Cooder and his Band play Centrepointe Theatres to celebrate much of his greatest musical work plus songs from his much-anticipated new recording “The Prodigal Son”, to be released in early May of this year.

Harpdog Brown &
the Uptown Blues Band
Irene’s Pub, 885 Bank
Street
Saturday, July 6 @ 9
pm; $15 at the door
Canada’s
Classic Bluesman, Harpdog Brown is on the road again and this time he's
bringing a whole new show never-before seen in Ottawa.
Harpdog Brown has grown a reputation as a real-deal purveyor of classic electric blues. Think of the old Chess Records and Sun Records of the late ‘40s and early ‘50s. These days he’s been touring more and more as Harpdog Brown & the Uptown Blues Band - a vintage New Orleans Blues sound featuring slide trombone, keyboards, bass and drums and often a sax and clarinet. Still a vintage vibe, just a different vintage! This music will move you! They perform mostly originals, yet they often include great songs of the masters from that era. Think Louis Jordan, Satchmo, Sonny Boy Williamson, Wynonie Harris, even Duke Ellington. Audiences are raving about this new show!
Get off the couch and some see some seriously vintage blues that’s lots of fun!

And The Geoff Hudson
Band
Rainbow Bistro, 76
Murray Street
Friday, July 20 @ 9
pm
On his first solo full-length album, “Compass”, singer/songwriter Conor Gains proves himself deeply devoted to making uncompromisingly soulful music that transcends all genres. Gains' label debut marks the follow-up to the self-released sophomore album "Run Away With The Night", which sparked interest in the young artist's music. In 2016 Gains' album closing song "Leave It On The Line" won the Cobalt Prize at the Maple Blues Awards. This national prize is designed to highlight innovation and creativity in songwriting. This is the impression one gets while listening to the Conor Gains Band. The deep respect of roots, jazz and blues music paired with the soulful, adventurous exploration of contemporary music gives Gains' songs an air of familiarity while listening to something completely unique and transcendental.

consciously push the envelope to the next generation sounds of the genre; some
older releases will be spun - just because the album in old, doesn't mean it's
