Well-priced accommodation available at The Cove, nearby B&Bs and motel
Westport is a beautiful historic town on the Rideau Waterway - a 90-minute drive from Ottawa, 45 minutes from Kingston.

This year we celebrate our 15th Anniversary season - making BOTR one of the longest running and best Blues Series in the country. We've put together another fabulous Line-Up of some of Canada's best Blues artists - nominees and winners of Juno Awards, Maple Blues Awards, American Blues Music Award, Western Canadian Music Award and more - bringing back some of the all time favourites who have played the Series over the years plus a few great new ones.

Visit www.BluesOnTheRideau.ca for more details including artists' Bios, LINKS to their websites and You Tubes.

Then check your calendars, make your choices and RESERVE NOW to be sure you don't miss out on the shows. This is particularly true if you want to STAY OVERNIGHT. All the rooms at The Cove; nearby B&Bs and the Westport Station Motel usually sell out in advance on BOTR nights.

You will note that there has been a
SMALL INCREASE in the ticket price this year - from $65 pp to $70 pp (plus HST). This is the first price increase in 5 years and is necessary to cover the increased costs of just about everything - food, drink, staff, band and Sound Engineer fees, advertising, printing costs and more.

However, when you consider the quality of the meal, the venue, the ambiance and the incredible LIVE music on these nights and compare it to just about anything else this is still one of - if not THE - best entertainment value in eastern Ontario - make that the country!

Saturday, January 11 @ 8 pm; tickets $55 (+surcharge & HST)

Hailed as “The new master of the slide guitar” by the Montreux Jazz Festival and “The real thang” by the legendary Bootsy Collins, Jack Broadbent has spent the past year wowing international audiences with his unique blend of virtuosic acoustic and slide guitar, and poignant folk and blues inspired vocals.

Born and raised in rural England, Jack grew up listening to artists such as John Lee Hooker, Peter Green, Robert Johnson, Neil Young and Joni Mitchell, to name a few. These legends of rock, blues, roots and folk influenced Jack’s distinctive song writing, singing and performance style, which have a depth and heart that defies strict musical genres. Jack‘s performances exude a warmth, humour and energy that has electrified audiences worldwide.

Following a string of successful shows opening for legendary artists, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Johnny Hallyday, Robben Ford, and Tony Joe White, Jack headlined his own whirlwind international tour, playing sold out shows for music lovers in Europe, New Zealand, Japan, the US and Canada. 2020 will be another big year for Jack as he continues touring internationally.

Music By The Bay Live presents
Tony D Band
Avalon Lounge Port Whitby Marina; 301 Watson Street West Whitby
Friday, January 31 @ 8 pm; tickets $45 (+surcharge & HST)

Tony D (Diteodoro), guitarist for Juno award winning band MonkeyJunk, has been laying it down for over thirty years. MonkeyJunk has amassed twenty Maple Blues awards and a Blues Music Award, (formerly known as The Handy Awards).

At the age of thirteen Tony began his musical journey on the guitar. Learning mostly in the blues, rock jazz stylings. From Muddy Waters, to Jimi Hendrix to Jimmy Page, to Albert King to Wes Montgomery and all the points in between.

At 19, lead guitarist Tony D performed for three nights in Buddy Guy’s band and in 1982, he opened for Stevie Ray Vaughan. He has also toured with some of this country’s greatest musicians, including the late Dutch Mason. In the early nineties having taken a trip to Europe and securing a record deal out of Holland, Tony became one of the first Canadian blue musician to tour Europe.

The Blues and anything that falls under that umbrella being his first love, but Tony D has also explored various forms of music. Flamenco became another obsession and after studying the form for two years he joined a troupe which made him write pseudo flamenco and Spanish rhythm instrumentals which he still plays today in his solo shows.

Joining Tony will be Mary Gellner on drums and Joe Hawkins on Bass

From the delta to the desert it all comes from places of devotion, musical devotion. “Basically, I’m like Lightnin’ Hopkins with an electric guitar” Tony D

NPR from Canton NY
For those who live south of the city, OBS member Bob Cavan notes that the National Public Radio (NPR) radio signal at 89.5 FM in Canton NY comes in pretty strong in Manotick. Bob recommends two shows in particular. Bob says “The Blue Note” Tuesdays 3 pm-5 pm, and “The Radio Bob Show” Wednesdays 3 pm-5 pm are both excellent shows – blues, ‘50s & ‘60s, rock & roll, R&B.

Unsung and On The Side
With Carolyn Fe
Tuesdays, 7-9 pm
Re-broadcast Saturday 10 am – noon & Sunday 2-4 pm (all times EST)
It’s all about the Blues, Jazz and its derivatives from around the globe and just around the corner. Songs rarely heard, from the very first recordings all the way to indie artists who consciously push the envelope to the next generation sounds of the genre; some older releases will be spun - just because the album in old, doesn't mean it's forgotten, thus the "On The Side" part of the show's title.

They will be representing the Ottawa Blues Society at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis from January 28 to February 1, 2020, only 10 days after their show at Bistro Gainsbourg.
