Jonas & the
Massive Attraction
Rainbow Bistro, 76
Murray Street
Friday, November 18
It’s been quite a ride for Canadian rockers Jonas &
The Massive Attraction since the release of their album “Big Slice” in 2010.
The album hit Top 15 in sales nationally in Canada on the Nielsen SoundScan
Sales Charts in its first week of release. With three chart topping rock radio
singles, including their Top 10 hit ‘Big Slice’, Top 15 single ‘The Deep End’
and Top 20 song ‘Seize The Day’, the band was named one of the Top 10 “Most
Played Artists” at Canadian rock radio on the Mediabase year-end radio charts
for 2011. No small feat, considering they did it on their own indie label, Big
Slice Records.

He’s been called “a revelation” by Rolling Stone. Woody
Allen recruited him to score the theme to the 2012 Academy Award winning film Midnight in
Paris, and he performed live during this year’s Oscar’s telecast. To say that
French-born guitarist/composer Stephane Wrembel—who learned his craft among the
Gypsies at campsites in the French countryside—has already had a remarkable
career would be an understatement. But this virtuoso, who is now
Brooklyn-based, has truly just begun to make his mark as one of the most
original guitar voices in contemporary music.
“Origins”, Wrembel’s 5th and most highly
anticipated release yet, finds the multi-faceted musician corralling a myriad
of influences into a hybrid that simultaneously reflects where he’s been and
points to where he’s headed. Although he built his reputation as a stylist in
the mode of the iconic French Sinti guitarist Django Reinhardt, Wrembel now
revels in transcending and expanding. “I’m digging deeper and deeper into my
roots,” he says about the album. Origins touches upon everything from blues to
flamenco to rock; all of these influences come together as something
identifiable only as Stephane Wrembel. It is the most sophisticated
representation to date of Wrembel’s superior compositional skills; his melodies
burst with a panoply of textures and colors, moods and emotions.
“It’s a different state of mind all together,” adds
Wrembel, talking about Origins. “I always compose with a picture in mind. That
Impressionism approach is the main thing that I’ve carried with me from
Fontainebleau.”

A powerful and passionate singer in the style of Big Mama
Thornton and Bessie Smith with a great feel for the Blues, Karen swept on to
the American Blues scene in 2009 with her first album “Lucky Girl” - it went to
#13 on the Living Blues Chart and was a ‘Pick To Click’ on XM satellite’s
Bluesville Show. She then took 2nd place in the Band category at the
2010 International Blues Challenge in Memphis. Her second album, “Still The
Rain”, earned her 3 American Blues Music Award nominations (Best Contemporary
Blues Female Artist, Best Contemporary Blues Album and Best Song). In 2014 she
released a CD called “Prohibition Blues”, featuring classic songs from that era
by legends like Ma Rainey, Victoria Spivey and Alberta Hunter – all idols of
hers. After a year-long hiatus due to a family tragedy, Karen returned in 2015
with a new record called “Ten Miles Of Bad Road”. Produced by Grammy winner
Tony Braunagel, it’s a powerful mix of Blues, Roots and Soul. Karen & her
band played BOTR back in October 2011 and gave an unforgettable performance.
We’re very lucky to have her back again this year!

C.R. Avery
Black Sheep Inn,
Wakefield QC
Sunday, November 20 @
8:30 pm; $12 advance, $15 at the door
C.R. Avery is a unique, raw and dynamic performer. His
genius lies in many genres – blues, hip-hop, spoken word and rock & roll.
He is a one-man band, but one for this generation; with the rare ability to
sing poetic verse while beatboxing simultaneously while pounding the piano and
adding harmonica like a plot twist. He sings! He rhymes! He
beatboxes! He's a multi-instrumentalist!
It probably goes without saying that, with his skills as
a poet, he's also an amazing songwriter and his new album “All The Angels
Didn’t Scare Me”, perhaps more than any other, is a major showcase for his
songwriting chops. This was about going back to the traditions of music being a
form of journalism for the poor and working classes. It's a contemporary
singer-songwriter album, touching on everything from poverty, brokenness and
gentrification to Hollywood archetypes and casual relationships -- and it's
backed at times by a massive-yet-accessible wall of sound courtesy of Ben Mink
and Steve Dawson.

Shawn started playing the blues at the age of 17, when he

Teardrops. Shortly after that tour with his father, Shawn realized his genetic
destiny (all the Holt's are talented musicians) and formed his own band. He has
been watching, learning and playing blues ever since.
Shawn Holt and The Teardrops are winners for Best New
Artist Debut - Daddy Told Me by the Blues Foundation (BMA) 2014. And also won

One
more time in support of the Ottawa Foodbank, The Bushpilots are again hosting a

guests including Bob Dylan, Paul Butterfield, Eric Clapton, Joni Mitchell, Neil

breathed American music.
The
Bushpilots were blessed to be joined by a Who's Who of Ottawa talent in 2013

this year will be the biggest and baddest yet. Joining the BPs will be, as
