Blues on the Rideau
Presents
Spencer MacKenzie
Dinner & Show at
The Cove Country Inn,
Westport ON
Friday, September 23;
7- 11 pm, $65
Proceeds to Rideau Vista and St.
Edwards Elementary Schools
When
you hear Spencer MacKenzie sing and play guitar, it’s hard to believe that such
a young man (he just turned 17!) can play the Blues with so much skill, passion
and depth. He is an “old soul in a young body”. His debut album “Infected With
The Blues” is already earning rave reviews and getting major airplay. He’s also
landed some prestigious festival gigs this summer including Kitchener
Bluesfest, the West Coast Blues Festival, Southside Shuffle and the Canal Bank
Shuffle) and won the Toronto Blues Society’s Talent Search in July 2016. And
the Blues Foundation in Memphis has awarded him a scholarship to attend a Blues
Camp in Chicago. Spencer is backed by a great young band - not one is over the
age of 21! - and will be joined by a special guest, Hamilton guitarist Brant
Parker for this show (Brant has helped mentor Spencer). I predict a great
career ahead for this young man. Come and see him LIVE before he gets famous so
you can say “I saw him when”.

Paul Reddick
Rainbow Bistro, 76 Murray

Friday, September 30
Melding poetry, mystery, darkness and light, along with an extensive knowledge of the history and traditions of blues music is what makes Paul Reddick on of the most popular figures on the blues and roots music scene today. For over 25 years he’s been writing and performing his eclectic brand of blues, bringing the art form to new frontiers with his rapacious, deep vocals, masterful harmonica playing and song writing. As the unofficial poet laureate of Canadian blues, words are his weapon of choice and when he sings, it is near impossible not to listen and get lost within the songs, right alongside him and illustrating what the influential British magazine Mojo described as his “wayward brilliance.”

John Primer
Rainbow Bistro, 76
Murray Street
Saturday, October 15
@ 9:30 pm
As
the title of his critically acclaimed Atlantic Records CD suggests, Grammy
Award and Blues Music Award Nominee, John Primer is truly “The Real Deal.” At 8
years old, John borrowed his first guitar and started to strum. Before that he
played a homemade guitar built on the wall of the house with a broom wire, 2
nails, and 2 rocks to make it tight. With the sounds of Jimmy Reed, Muddy
Waters, Little Milton, Elmore James, BB & Albert King reverberating through
his Grandmother Laura Nell’s tube radio, John was instantly hooked. Early
inspiration came from his family steeped in spiritual, gospel, blues and
R&B tradition. As a young boy John’s mother knew he would be a singer, “he
came out singing” she would say. John first appeared on stage at the local
Baptist church, in his hometown of Camden Mississippi.

Charles Bradley has made a name for
himself as a riveting live performer. By now, Charles Bradley’s remarkable,
against-all-odds rise has been well documented: how he transcended a bleak life
on the streets and struggled through a series of ill-fitting jobs before
finally being discovered by Daptone's Gabriel Roth. The documentary Charles
Bradley: Soul of America, directed
by Poull Brien, follows Bradley’s extraordinary journey during the electrifying
and transformative months leading up to the release of debut album “No Time for Dreaming”.
It was followed by his triumphant second album, 2013’s “Victim of Love”, and
earlier this year he released his third album, “Changes”.
