SPECIAL EVENTS THIS
WEEK
****************************
I just got home from seeing this documentary. If you’re a
blues fan who wants to see the ‘real deal’ Mississippi blues, this is a ‘don’t miss’ movie!
I AM THE BLUES
Bytowne Theatre, 325
Rideau Street
One showing remaining:
Tuesday, June 28 @ 9:05
pm
Tickets - $12 for
non-members; $8 for Bytowne members (with Bytowne membership card); ticket
prices include HST, cash only; Bytowne membership $12; seniors & students
$6 with ID; (valid for one year from date of purchase)
I AM THE BLUES is a beautiful feature
documentary about to go into national theatrical release. The film was made by
Emmy-winning Montreal director Daniel Cross. It follows a number of remaining
blues greats, most in their 80s, in Mississippi and Louisiana. It's an
incredibly intimate and touching look at these artists and a disappearing
generation in the blues.
I
AM THE BLUES takes the audience on a musical journey through the swamps of the
Louisiana Bayou, the juke joints of the Mississippi Delta and Moonshine soaked
BBQs in the North Mississippi Hill Country. Visit the last original blues
devils, many in their 80s, still living in the American deep south and touring
the Chitlin’ Circuit. Let Bobby Rush, Barbara Lynn, Henry Gray, Carol Fran,
Little Freddie King, Lazy Lester, Bilbo Walker, Jimmy “Duck” Holmes, RL Boyce,
LC Ulmer, Lil’ Buck Sinegal and their friends awaken the blues in all of us.

All day fundraiser
for Jed Rached
Moose McGuire’s, 3220
McCarthy Road
Saturday, July 2 @ 1
pm; $15 advance, $20 at the door
12 hours of rockin’ blues … with Jerome Godboo, Wild T,
Drew Nelson Band, Rod Williams Band, Lucas Haneman Express, Crunchy Flower, Joe
Gaspar Band, River City Junction, Fat City 8, Clint Everson , Fredy Carriere,
Kevin Ficzere.
In support of our good friend, fellow musician and a
co-founder of the Ottawa Blues Society, Jed Rached. Jed has given his heart and
his music to the Ottawa community for much of his life. His contribution has
been instrumental in establishing a vibrant Blues scene in the city. If you’ve
ever sat and had a conversation with Jed, you can’t help but love the guy. He
is sincere and generous, and gives everything of himself through his music.
Chronic illness and depression has cost him a great deal in the last few years - emotionally, physically, mentally and financially. Having made so many friends through his dedication to Blues music, it makes sense that many of them now want to help raise his spirits and some funds in an effort to offset the expense of being unable to work.
So, his friends including Blues Bud Brent, Trevor Denault, Ottawa Rock & Roots Society, Moose McGuire’s and all the many talented musicians performing are getting together to bring you this intimate boutique Blues and BBQ!
Depression is a struggle that many fight alone in silence. Let’s show Jed and others affected by depression that you don’t have to be alone or ashamed – support is available. Let us extend a hand (and a guitar neck) for the cause and have a lot of fun doing it.
With so much to celebrate this summer season – let’s kick it off with an all BLUES boutique festival and enjoy the incredible talent along with some hot buns!
May all your blues be the musical kind!

album of the year by both Blues Source and Blues Blast).
Erin

for 13 years as an outstanding blues artist – she has performed at many
major blues festivals in Canada and the United States and everyone who has seen
her consider her to be a remarkable talent and a must see artist.

The Nate Crockett Band
RCHA Club, 193
Ontario Street, Kingston ON
Saturday, July 16 @ 9
pm; $5 at the door
The Nate Crockett Band was the
talk of the Homegrown Live Festival as they had everyone at the RCHA Club Blues
Venue talking about their foot stomping, high energy, original and awesome
performance.
They
are a newly formed band with members from Dr.Jones and Tea for the
Voyage. The group is a solid sound of foot–stomping whiskey blues, mixed
with country tones and bluegrass twang. Using a vast array of instruments,
including the banjo, mandolin, glockenspiel, clarinet, and bari sax, the
musical genre is hard to categorize. With a break-neck rhythm section to hold
the pocket and playing mostly original music, this band has a very
strong stage performance. Live or recorded, the band is tight, yet
unpredictable. Listening to a live performance gives you the sensation of
balancing on the edge of a cliff with the band right there with you. With
a dynamic feel, gritty and truthful down-and-out lyrics, the Nate Crockett Band
has a sound that is unique, relatable and energizing all at the same
time.
