The Emburys
Bar Robo, 692
Somerset Street West
Thursday, December 13;
8-11 pm; $10
You
could simply call The Emburys a roots and blues trio out of Peterborough, Ontario,
but let’s take a closer look, shall we?
Stage right, you will find guitarist and vocalist Emily Burgess with her treasured Gibson 339 guitar, singing her catchy original songs with a unique, warm and smooth vocal style. If her vocals put you at ease, don’t sit back and relax too quickly – she is about to rip into a blazing guitar solo, paying homage to her heroes Chuck Berry, Freddie King, and SRV in every lick.
Stage left, bassist Rico Browne is busy laying down the lowest notes in the band, while simultaneously singing the highest harmonies. He is producing a great deal of sound in this band, and he looks like he’s having the time of his life doing it.
Finally, completing the V formation and anchoring the band is Marcus Browne on drums and vocals. You might see his band mates laughing during the show – looking back in awe of his never-ending creativity, technical prowess, and huge personality. Simply put, he is one fine musician.
This cohesive three-piece band sounds like it has more members hiding behind the curtains. With soaring three-part harmony, expert attention to detail on their instruments, and original tunes that you will be singing all the way home, The Emburys are worth a close-up look.

Sunday, December 16,
6-9 pm
Hey,
good people of Ottawa and beyond its borders:. I just wanted to post the Mud
Boys Band one more time - and it's waving goodbye. After 21+years and 3 CDs
later, I've decided to make The Mud Boys one of Ottawa's past Blues Bands that
used to be. We've played in so many great venues and met so many nice
people. To all of the fine musicians I've had the pleasure of making music with,
I say ‘Thank You!’. Ottawa has an awesome live blues scene that I'm very
grateful to be a part of and will continue to be, going forward.
If you want to see The Mud Boys for the 1st or the last time, the Atomic Rooster will be the place Sunday, December 16, 6-9 pm. Also I'm asking if any past band mates can make it out, your first favorite beverage and a couple of songs are on me.
Cheers all - Looking forward to the future!

You can’t paint the blues without the Primer
As
the bandleader and lead guitarist for Muddy Waters,
Willie Dixon, Magic Slim & The Teardrops, John Primer’s
virtuosity as a blues musician was forged by legends. John started playing on
Maxwell Street, the birthplace of Chicago blues and soon became the house

John Primer has undisputedly helped build the sound
and style of Chicago blues as we know it today. The echoes of tradition
bellowing from the birthplaces he played such as: Maxwell Street, Theresa’s,
Checkerboard and Rosa’s Lounges, pulse from every chord in his fingers today.

7-9 pm
Re-broadcast Saturday 10 am – noon &
Sunday 2-4 pm (all times EST)
It’s all about the Blues, Jazz and its
derivatives from around the globe and just around the corner. Songs rarely heard,
from the very first recordings all the way to indie artists who consciously
push the envelope to the next generation sounds of the genre; some older
releases will be spun - just because the album in old, doesn't mean it's forgotten,
thus the "On The Side" part of the show's title.
