Baobab Tree will be presenting a reception and performance of Ghanaian food, rhythms and dance at the Chamber at Centrepointe. They will welcome special guests Keteke from Montréal, featuring Prosper Adjetey & Dominic Donkor, both former performers with the Ghana National Dance Ensemble. In addition we will be joined by guest host Rita Celli from CBC Radio.
Baobab Youth Performers range in age from 12-18, and are directed by Kathy Armstrong. They have performed numerous concerts in the Ottawa area as well as traveling to Banff, the USA and Ghana. As well, students from the Ghanaian Language and Culture Association will perform with the youth and Keteke. The GLCA offers Saturday classes to children of Ghanaian heritage to study traditional languages, and culture.

Each year the Children’s Aid Society presents a Night In Blue. This very special night is a fund raiser to help some of Kingston’s most vulnerable kids. This year the CAS has exceeded all expectations and hired the hottest band not only in Canada but also in the USA. Transplanted from La Belle Province, this native Montrealer now makes Toronto his home. It was there he was introduced to & captivated by the sultry sound produced by the blues harmonica. Wasting little time he secured as many tapes & CDs containing blues harp and the masters as he could, haunted the local clubs and hounded the established players for advice which they graciously provided. Practicing diligently, his hard work shows.

Kim Simmonds began his solo acoustic career in 1997 with the release of the CD, “Solitaire”. An album of traditional blues, “Solitaire” was the starting point of Kim’s rediscovery of his love of the acoustic guitar. Expanding upon that traditional foundation, “Blues Like Midnight” was one of 2001’s pleasant surprises as Kim’s songwriting depth and vocals shine right along with his always stellar guitar playing. With his third release in 2004, "Struck By Lightning", Simmonds pulled out all the stops with an album again full of superb guitar playing but this time fully augmented with a powerful acoustic rhythm section. Kim's 2008 release, "Out Of The Blue", is a collection of varied material that places him in a new setting, that of the singer/songwriter. This time around the guitar playing is understated with more emphasis on the song. His baritone voice has aged well, matured perhaps and now stands out throughout the CD's eleven songs. A "bare bones" recording with just the occasional background vocal, percussion and string section, "Out Of The Blue" displays Simmonds' wider musical range that will act as a perfect introduction for first time listeners.

Morgan Davis

For nearly four decades Morgan Davis has been on the road travelling across Canada, the United States and Europe. His performances draw from a rich tradition of country blues, as well as his own contemporary songs infused with wit and a large dose of humour.
Originally from Detroit, he grew up listening to a prolific mix of rhythm and blues. The music of Jimmy Reed, Ike and Tina Turner, Chuck Berry and Fats Domino was in the air. While living in Rochdale College, Toronto's mecca for the subculture of the late 1960s, he immersed himself in the study of Delta Blues, especially the music of Robert Johnson. He hit the road with the Rhythm Rockets, and other bands, eventually forming his own trio.
Morgan's first solo recording "Blues Medicine", on Electro-Fi records, garnered critical acclaim as well as awards for songwriting and production. His multi- award winning release "Painkiller" won an impressive four awards at the 2004 Maple Blues Awards and not long after took home Canada's top music prize...the Juno for Blues Album of the Year.
Morgan Davis has established a rich career as a solo artist, and also performs with stellar lineups of musicians as a trio or full band. His most recent recording, "At Home In Nova Scotia", pays homage to Atlantic Canada where he has been a resident since 2001. His passion for the Blues has never wavered ... and he fully expects to be on the road for the rest of his life.

In the second hour there is a blues calendar, a rundown of events in Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa, and interviews with “new and reissued blues and rhythm and blues tracks on wax, alternating with “live blues and R&B for a Sunday night” in the last half hour of the show. On the last Sunday of every month, the show goes “down in the delta” for a selection of acoustic blues tracks in the final half hour of the program.
