Music
By The Bay Live presents
Tony
D Band
Friday, January 31 @
8 pm; tickets $45 (+surcharge & HST)
Tony
D (Diteodoro), guitarist for Juno award winning band MonkeyJunk, has been
laying it down for over thirty years. MonkeyJunk has amassed twenty Maple Blues
awards and a Blues Music Award, (formerly known as The Handy Awards).
At
the age of thirteen Tony began his musical journey on the guitar. Learning
mostly in the blues, rock jazz stylings. From Muddy Waters, to Jimi Hendrix to
Jimmy Page, to Albert King to Wes Montgomery and all the points in between.
At
19, lead guitarist Tony D performed for three nights in Buddy Guy’s band and in
1982, he opened for Stevie Ray Vaughan. He has also toured with some of this
country’s greatest musicians, including the late Dutch Mason. In the early nineties
having taken a trip to Europe and securing a record deal out of Holland, Tony
became one of the first Canadian blue musician to tour Europe.
The Blues and anything that falls under that umbrella being his first love, but Tony D has also explored various forms of music. Flamenco became another obsession and after studying the form for two years he joined a troupe which made him write pseudo flamenco and Spanish rhythm instrumentals which he still plays today in his solo shows.
Joining
Tony will be Mary Gellner on drums and Joe Hawkins on Bass
From
the delta to the desert it all comes from places of devotion, musical devotion.

Music
By The Bay Live presents
Bill
Durst
Avalon
Lounge Port Whitby Marina; 301 Watson Street West, Whitby ON
Saturday,
February 22 @ 8 pm; $45 advance + surcharge + HST
Always an audience favourite, Bill Durst is a
Canadian Blues-Rock-Roots guitarist, singer, songwriter and entertainer who has
written and recorded over 125 songs on 12 albums with 7 national radio chart
hits. Bill has toured across North America and in Europe and tours extensively
in Canada.
As a kid growing up in Wingham and then London,
Ontario, Bill was heavily influenced by Motown, R&B, Toronto Psychedelic
Soul music as well as the British Blues Invasion and Jimi Hendrix. Bill’s entrance on the national/international stage was with his
classic rock band Thundermug formed from London R&B groups in 1969. By the
summer of 1972 the band had a number one hit and a fan following in Eastern
Canada. The band went on to record a total of 5 albums, (3 albums in the
early/mid 1970s and two CDs in the mid-1990s) releasing records in the US and
Europe.
Bill put out his first two solo releases in the
mid-1980s but it wasn’t until the early 2000s that Durst got some real career
momentum. In 2004 he proclaimed his intention to start up a “little, fuzzy,
psychedelic blues band” and since then Bill and his co-writer Joe DeAngelis
have produced 5 CDs

By The Bay Live presents
Matt
Weidinger - The Music of Van Morrison
St. Francis Centre, 78
Church Street South, Ajax ON
Saturday,
February 29 @ 8 pm; tickets $55 (+surcharge & HST)
Born
decades after Van Morrison was creating some of his most enduring music, singer
songwriter, Matt Weidinger, has a musical connection to the ’60s and ’70s,
what he calls the golden age of record-making.
Anyone
who’s seen him perform would agree with the “old soul” label, so it’s particularly
fitting that he’s taking on the songs of an old soul master with his latest
tribute to the music of Van Morrison. It’ll be something of a retrospective of
Van the Man’s extensive song catalogue, with a particular focus on the early
stuff that was Weidinger’s introduction to Morrison’s brand of Celtic soul.

Marriner Caddell

Avalon Lounge, Port
Whitby Marina, Whitby ON
Saturday, April 18 @
8 pm; $45 advance + fees & HST
Steve Marriner, Chris Caddell & Jesse O'Brien
return to Music by the Bay Live for an unforgettable evening of blues. This
high-power trio will bring down the house on Saturday April 18 at Avalon Lounge
Port Whitby Marina. Be sure to bring your dancing shoes.
Steve Marriner is a dynamic and powerful
performer. His incorporation of various styles of blues, roots and soul come
together to form an original sound that is both deep and genuine. Steve has
toured internationally and performed at prestigious festivals, concert halls
and music clubs throughout Canada, The US, Europe and Australia and fronts the
acclaimed roots sensation MonkeyJunk.
Who would’ve thought that Belleville, Ontario could produce a musician with the southern vibe and bluesy reverence of a Stevie Ray Vaughan or Doyle Bramhall II? Chris Caddell’s raw soulful voice and emotive guitar skills were an instant hit when the then-teen made the big move to Toronto.
Jesse O’Brien played his first gig, with his father, at the age of 12. A few years later, he was playing piano for Ronnie Hawkins, and the teenager launched into an award-winning career as a keyboardist.

Hosted
by Bernard Stepien, Ron Steeds, Allan Wigney, Jean-Michel Labatut and Aidian Thomas,
‘In A Mellow Tone’ introduces listeners to the entire history of jazz, from its
beginnings to the latest innovations. Every program has a focus; on a musician,
a city, a festival, an instrument, a record label or on recent releases. The hosts
draw on their large personal CD and LP collections to supplement CKCU's extensive
resources.

Tuesdays,
7-9 pm
Re-broadcast Saturday 10 am – noon & Sunday
2-4 pm (all times EST)
It’s all about the Blues, Jazz and its derivatives
from around the globe and just around the corner. Songs rarely heard, from the very
first recordings all the way to indie artists who consciously push the envelope
to the next generation sounds of the genre; some older releases will be spun - just
because the album in old, doesn't mean it's forgotten, thus the "On The
Side" part of the show's title.
