24 Special Statement

The
increase in reported cases of COVID-19 in recent days is a stark reminder of
the potential for this virus to spread if it is given the chance to do so. With
the virus present in our community and the vast majority of us being
susceptible to infection, we all need to continue to be COVIDWise to
prevent transmission.
Many
cases are linked to multiple large indoor social gatherings involving a range
of age groups. Indoor gatherings are a high-risk activity that can lead to
‘super-spreader events’ in which multiple people can become infected who can
then expose others in their households, social contacts and places of
employment. Transmission is not limited to these large gatherings but can occur
when distancing and mask use have not been maintained. In addition, people with
symptoms have gone to social gatherings or work increasing the risk of
transmission.
Please
continue to be COVIDWise and
assess the risk of the activities in which you engage. Practice physical
distancing, wear a mask when you are not able to distance or when in an indoor
public space, isolate when sick and exercise proper hand hygiene.
Be “social wise” when you socialize
Last
weekend saw crowded streets in the ByWard Market. As bars and restaurants
reopen, we need to be cautious of congestion that can lead to the transmission
of COVID-19 by not distancing and not using masks outside in crowded areas.
While being outdoors generally lowers risk of COVID-19 transmission, you still
need to maintain that physical space between others.
Socializing
is important for our mental health. So, it means being “social wise” when you
socialize to reduce the risk of such activities. This means keeping visits with
friends shorter, reducing the number of participants, meeting outdoors and
maintaining a two-metre distance.If you are going out in public, please have a
mask on you at all times if you find you are not able to maintain a physical
distance of at least two metres from others. The City’s Temporary
Mandatory Mask By-law also indicates masks are mandatory in
enclosed public settings like restaurants, bars and movie theatres.

Pinchin is an incredible guitarist (acoustic, electric and
steel) with a unique voice and a superb repertoire of original songs mixed
with excellent versions of Blues classics. He's also an entertaining
and fun performer. Born in Etobicoke and raised in Mississauga, Sean began his
musical journey in the '90s playing lead guitar in a number of different rock
bands, until he discovered his true calling - the Blues. From that point on, he
worked on perfecting his finger-picking slide guitar style, vocals and
songwriting. He has 7 albums to his credit including "Monkey
Brain" in 2016 which earned him a JUNO nomination and his most recent - an
8 song Tour de Force called "Bad Things". He's also a multiple Maple
Blues Award nominee. This will be a guaranteed great show!

Jim moved to Atlantic Canada and has been performing in and around Nova Scotia for the past ten years. Jim has performed over 4000 shows during his career. He has a variety of material from “Rock-A Billy 50s, 60s, 70s right up to current classic rock and country” to “Smokey Blues” as well as many originals.
He always keeps the audience entertained and is never short of their attention. With his quick wit and his confident stage presence he is a “True Entertainer” and not just a mere guitar player. He engages well with any audience and provides a personal “feel” to his show.

an audience favourite, Bill Durst is a Canadian Blues-Rock-Roots guitarist,
singer, songwriter and entertainer who has written and recorded over 125 songs
on 12 albums with 7 national radio chart hits. Bill has toured across North
America and in Europe and tours extensively in Canada.
As
a kid growing up in Wingham and then London, Ontario, Bill was heavily
influenced by Motown, R&B, Toronto Psychedelic Soul music as well as the
British Blues Invasion and Jimi Hendrix.
Bill’s
entrance on the national/international stage was with his classic rock band
Thundermug formed from London R&B groups in 1969. By the summer of 1972,
the band had a number one hit and a fan following in Eastern Canada. The band
went on to record a total of 5 albums, (3 albums in the early/mid 1970s and two
CDs in the mid-1990s) releasing records in the US and Europe. Bill put out his
first two solo releases in the mid-1980’s but it wasn’t until the early 2000s
that Durst got some real career momentum. In 2004 he proclaimed his intention to
start up a “little, fuzzy, psychedelic blues band” and since then Bill and his
co-writer Joe DeAngelis have produced 5 full length CDs: The Wharncliffe
Sessions (’05), The Great Willy Mammoth (’09), Bill Durst Live (‘12) and Hard
And Heavy (’13) Good Good Lovin (’15).

reassembling new blues stylings with an edge. Mirek Lalas on keys, Paul Murray
on drums & backing vocals, Rafael Minassian on bass & backing vocals,

this collaborative delivers blues-with-an-edge. Influences include Eric

Screenings
will be limited to 50 patrons per show. This is undiscovered country for the
ByTowne, where our large capacity previously made it easy to waltz up to the
front door with only minutes to spare before a screening. Sell-outs were rare.
To
avoid disappointment, we're inviting you to book your tickets on line – but
we're not ready yet. We've been working with the software people and the
payment-processing people, and we're now pretty sure we can get it up and
running before we open.
Nothing
in the COVID era is 100% guaranteed virus-free, but I'm pretty sure that the
precautions put in place at the ByTowne will make your movie experience safe,
relaxing and enjoyable.
Seats
are taped off so that no-one will be sitting within 2 metres of you (except the
person you brought with you). Staff will wear masks, of course, and all
customers will be asked to wear a mask until seated in the auditorium.
Hand
sanitizer is available from several dispensers located around the lobby area,
and payment at the box office can be made using the 'tap' function of a debit
card.
To
keep traffic circulating and well spaced out in the lobby, we won't be opening
the concession stand just yet. (Bring your own snacks -- it's okay!) And we'll
be slowing down the exiting process, so that patrons don't 'cluster' on their
way out.
