Colin James – Up Close and Personal
Town Hall 1873 Centre for the Performing Arts, 302 Queen Street, Port Perry ON
Wednesday, January 17 @ 8 pm

From the prairies of Saskatchewan to the stages of the world, sharing his talent with some of the greatest and most influential musicians of all time, Colin James has quietly and steadily established himself as one of Canada's greatest musicians.

For his 18th album, “Blue Highways”, Colin pays tribute to some of his long-time blues idols including Howlin’ Wolf, Jimmy Reed, Freddie King, Jr. Wells & Buddy Guy, Peter Green, Robert Johnson and William Bell, to name a few. In the spring of 2015 after wrapping up his Hearts on Fire Tour, Colin was loving playing with his band and very happy with the sound they had created on stage. What better time to make a record! Especially the record Colin had been itching to make for years – a collection of some of his favourite blues tracks. In less than a week Colin was recording in The Warehouse Studios in Vancouver and in just two days, “Blue Highways” was born.

January 17th will be an amazing night of music with a Canadian legend and Chris Caddell, one of Canada’s treasured up and coming singer-songwriters who are both considered two of Canada’s finest guitarists. Be part of the experience with Colin James - Up Close and Personal in Port Perry!

Paul Reddick
Black Sheep Inn, Wakefield QC
Friday, January 26 @ 8:30 pm

Irene’s Pub, 885 Bank Street
Saturday, January 27 @ 9:30 pm

Melding poetry, mystery, darkness and light, along with an extensive knowledge of the history and traditions of blues music is what makes Paul Reddick on of the most popular figures on the blues and roots music scene today. For over 25 years he’s been writing and performing his eclectic brand of blues, bringing the art form to new frontiers with his rapacious, deep vocals, masterful harmonica playing and song writing. As the unofficial poet laureate of Canadian blues, words are his weapon of choice and when he sings, it is near impossible not to listen and get lost within the songs, right alongside him and illustrating what the influential British magazine Mojo described as his “wayward brilliance.”

NAC presents
Michael Kaeshammer
NAC Babs Asper Theatre, 1 Elgin Street
Thursday, February 8 @ 7:30 pm

“No Filter” is the 11th album from Michael Kaeshammer. This is the sound of an artist following his muse completely unhindered by thoughts of commercial imperatives or genre constraints. The prolific Vancouver Island-based singer/songwriter/pianist/producer has earned a loyal international following as a triple threat. He’s a piano virtuoso with a technical mastery of many different styles, an eloquent singer/songwriter, and a charming and engaging performer. On “No Filter”, Michael mixes his well-crafted and melodic original songs with a couple of evocative piano instrumentals, and the result is a delightfully varied collection.

Kaeshammer has won West Coast Music Awards as Musician of the Year and Entertainer of the Year, while seven JUNO Award nominations have netted him two wins. With his recording career now spanning two full decades, Michael Kaeshammer has emerged as a truly original artist at the very top of his game and one in love with the creative process.

Valerie June
The 27 Club, 27 York Street
Friday, February 10 @ 8:30 pm; $25

"Understanding the order of time is important to anyone hoping to manifest a dream," says Valerie June. "There is a time to push, and a time to gently tend the garden."
Since the release of her 2013 breakout “Pushin' Against A Stone”, June has been patiently at work in the garden of song, nurturing seedlings with love and care into the lush bloom that is her stunning new album, “The Order Of Time”. Some songs grew from seeds planted more than a decade ago, others blossomed overnight when she least expected them to, but every track bears the influence of time. Thankfully for us, June was ready when time told her to harvest these songs. In the garden, as in life, there is a time for everything and the moment has finally arrived to enjoy the fruits of all her labor. With “The Order Of Time”, Valerie June has prepared a bountiful feast, and there's a seat at the table for everyone.

An Evening with Digging Roots and Dione Taylor & The Backsliderz
Shenkman Arts Centre, 245 Centrum Boulevard
Thursday, March 1 @ 8 pm; tickets $40

Prepare for a night of genre-blending R&B, folk and jazz uniting two of Canada’s most versatile and captivating performers. Filled with soul-stirring storytelling, new rhythms and exhilarating emotion, Digging Roots and Dione Taylor’s performances re-make musical traditions, creating a powerfully Canadian experience that is contemporary, passionate and audacious.

Juno-winning First Nations power couple Shoshona Kish and Raven Kanatakta have built their sound on a unique musical marriage of unvarnished truth and unconditional love. Their five-piece band turns out tunes that don’t fit in boxes: indie-folk, global-soul, roots-rock, hip-hop and blues-infused, Digging Roots is overall politically-engaged and poetically-enamoured.

Jazz, blues and gospel collide in this artist’s deep love for music, influenced by her past as a pastor's daughter from Saskatchewan — Taylor was raised in a family completely connected to song. The soulful singer’s Juno-nominated debut album catapulted her career across the continents, seeing her perform for audiences that have included the President of the United States and HM Queen Elizabeth II.

NAC Presents
Ray Bonneville
NAC Azrieli Theatre, 1 Elgin Street
Tuesday, March 20 @ 8 pm

Every now and then, you run across someone with a library's worth of stories to tell. But unlike the raconteurs who regale friends with well-embellished versions of their exploits, these storytellers have lived so much, they reveal chapters of their hard-won wisdom slowly, carefully, like layers peeled from an onion.

Ray Bonneville didn't even open his storybook until his early 40s, some 20 years after he started performing. But with a style that sometimes draws comparisons to JJ Cale and Daniel Lanois, this blues-influenced, New Orleans-inspired "song and groove man," as he's been so aptly described, luckily found his rightful calling.

On his fourth Red House Records album, “Easy Gone”, Bonneville delivers 10 reasons why patience pays off. In each, his guitarwork shimmers like stars emerging at dusk. His voice carries the rich, natural timbre of time, though underneath that pearl-like smoothness, one hears its gritty core. His harmonica rhythms add even more texture to his sound.
