The Commotions
CD Release Party – “Volume II”
Babylon Nightclub, 317 Bank Street
Friday, December 1; $10 at the door

The Commotions have sidestepped the lightweight pop craze and taken the back roads straight into the hearts of their loyal followers, earning unwavering support from the true lovers of genuine, unsullied soul music. This 12-piece, sharply dressed, original throwback to the days of Motown is an evolved collection of Canada's top funk & jazz players.

This new CD is packed with amazing talent. Fronting the band is both Rebecca Noelle (La Voix, The Peptides, David Gogo, and The Rumours) and Jeff Rogers (The Cooper Brothers and Silver Creek) on vocals. Both musicians have very successful careers on their own but have decided to bring their talents to the project.

With a sonically monumental performance and an energizing visual display, The Commotions command every room they play, drawing in audiences with their sizzling brass section, thumping backbeat, and sensitive ballads.

Come and join us for our CD release party at Ottawa's Babylon Nightclub on December 1.

Bill Durst is a Canadian Blues-Rock-Roots guitarist, singer, songwriter, entertainer who has written and recorded over 125 songs on 12 albums with 7 national radio chart hits. Bill’s entrance on the national/international stage was with his classic rock band Thundermug formed from London R&B groups in 1969. The band went on to record a total of 5 albums, (3 albums in the early/mid 1970s and two CDs in the mid 1990s) releasing records in the US and Europe. Bill put out his first two solo releases in the mid ‘80s but it wasn’t until the early 2000s that Durst got some real career momentum. In 2004 he proclaimed his intention to start up a “little, fuzzy, psychedelic blues band” and since then Bill and his co-writer Joe DeAngelis have produced 5 full length CDs: “The Wharncliffe Sessions” (’05), “The Great Willy Mammoth” (’09), “Live” (‘12), “Hard And Heavy” (’13) and “Good Good Lovin” (15).

For those who live south of the city, OBS member Bob Cavan notes that the National Public Radio (NPR) radio signal at 89.5 FM in Canton NY comes in pretty strong in Manotick. Bob recommends two shows in particular. Bob says “The Blue Note” Tuesdays 3 pm-5 pm, and “The Radio Bob Show” Wednesdays 3 pm-5 pm are both excellent shows – blues, ‘50s & ‘60s, rock & roll, R&B.
