David Owen’s “Livin’ Life” celebrates his return to recording and
performing after a self-imposed hiatus. The acoustic blues musician who
accompanies himself on guitar and harmonica was last heard from in 2007 after
releasing his “4 On The Floor” EP, the follow up to his debut, “Red Hot Kisses”. He’s
back with “Livin’ Life”, a dynamic recording, honouring the traditional form of
roots and blues using a cutting contemporary edge.
The career was building in Ottawa, Toronto and other parts of Canada, headlining his own shows and opening for blues greats Bobby ‘Blue’ Bland, Big Bill Morganfield, Sue Foley and others but, by choice, recording and performing took a back seat to family life. Songwriting continued and he honed and perfected his craft preparing the songs that have become “Livin’ Life”.
The approach to recording the new songs evolved as he planned his next career move. Downchild’s Gary Kendall, onboard since “4 On The Floor” is back as producer, along with veteran bassist, Alec Fraser using his brush bass style to provide the bottom end and percussion. Blues On The Rideau is a Dinner and Show Fundraiser
Series that has been running at The Cove Country Inn in Westport, Ontario for
the past 10 years. The shows start in September and run once a month through to
May (December excluded) and feature some of the best Blues bands in Canada (and
a few American ones too). It has come to be recognized as one of the
premier Blues Series in Canada. Every show is a fundraiser for a different
local charity. To date the Series has raised over $55,000. The goal for this
season is another $5K.
The Cove Inn is located in the beautiful village of Westport on Upper Rideau Lake - about a 90 minute drive from Ottawa, 45 minutes from Kingston. All BOTR shows run from 7 to 11 pm and include a delicious full course buffet dinner. The staff at The Cove are very friendly and the venue is small, intimate and relaxed. After dinner you get to see and dance to the bands up close and personal – the way Blues is best enjoyed – all for a very reasonable price – $65 (plus tax). There are door prize giveaways at every show and 2 Grand Prizes drawn at the end of the season from all of the Comment Cards filled in by attendees over the year.
