Adam Karch
Cabaret La Basoche,
120 rue Principale, Gatineau QC
Friday, October 31
@ 8 pm; tickets $30
At age 12, Montreal native Adam Karch discovered the
guitar, an instrument that would become his best friend and musical partner.
His 2011 release, “Cotton Fields”, revisits blues hits throughout the ages
(from the 1930s to present day) and offers five original songs. The album
explores the roots of the blues while paying homage to the long walk to freedom
taken by so many African-Americans, as well as a dedication to Harriet Tubman,
a visionary heroine who worked with the Canadian Underground Railroad in an
effort to abolish slavery. On his latest CD, “Blueprints”, you’ll find blues,
roots and unexpected acoustic versions of pop tunes.

An Evening of Blues
with Patsy Gallant
La Grange de la
Gatineau, 80 chemin Summer, Cantley QC
Friday, October 31;
Friday concert tickets $30 (plus tax)
Saturday, November
1; Saturday dinner & show tickets $65 (plus tax)
The
Queen of Disco, Patsy Gallant will present beautiful standard blues and
original compositions, accompanied by pianist Éric Sauvé. The show is in
English and French.
One of 10 children, Patsy Gallant,
born in New-Brunswick, started singing at the age of 5 with her sisters and
their band, The Gallant Sisters. Her solo career took off in 1970 when she
signed a contract with Columbia Records, releasing albums in both French and
English. A tiny, vivacious performer with a strong voice, Gallant became one of
the few Canadian artists to become a star during the disco era. After hosting a
TV show for two seasons and doing more recordings, she re-emerged in musical
theatre in 1988, performing in many productions. In 1997, she played Stella
Spotlight in Starmania
for eight years. In 2005, after
returning from her long run in Starmania,
she released a career retrospective, Tout va trop vite, which included early recordings and a remake of “Sugar
Daddy”. She released her new album “Coeur de velours” in 2013, in collaboration with DJ
Mario Léonard. Her latest
shows are: “Patsy Gallant lâche son fou”, “Patsy Gallant chante Piaf” and
“Patsy Gallant, Madame chante le Blues”.
La Grange de la Gatineau offers a
candle-lit, cabaret style setting. Tickets for the show are available at $30
(plus tax) for the Friday (concert only) and at $65 (plus tax) for the Saturday
(dinner & show). Bar service is available through the evening. Reservations
are required, and can be booked online at www.grange.ca

Coco Montoya
with
Special Guest Victor Wainwright
Showplace
Performance Centre, 290 George Street North, Peterborough ON
Friday, November 7
@ 8 pm; tickets $32 (at the box office or online)
Coco
Montoya from Texas is one of the most renowned guitar players out there. Guitar
One Magazine called him “the hottest southpaw in the Blues. Smoldering blues
and southern fried rock and roll with a master touch and killer soloing”. All
that and he has a great voice. Billboard said “an astounding guitar virtuoso
and a forceful singer”. The Village Voice called him “awe inspiring”.
Check
out the link below and see for yourself!
Victor
Wainwright returns to us from Memphis for a second time. He brought down the
house last time in our theatre. He is the 2013 & 2014 BMA Pinetop Perkins
Player of the Year. Chicago Blues Guide 2013 says “Victor is all about
boogie-woogie piano, deep soul and a voice that recalls Dr. John at his best.
He is a rising blues star, a tremendous player”.

Tim Williams
Irene’s Pub, 885
Bank Street
Wednesday, November
12
Tim
Williams is a
blues-based singer / songwriter / multi – instrumentalist. He is a 40 year
veteran of the ‘Roots’ music scene in North America, roots which stretch back to
the coffee-house scene of his native California in the mid 60′s.
Settling
in Canada in 1970, Tim is a studio musician, producer, and a performer in
constant demand. He has played Folk / Blues / Jazz festivals and concert halls
and clubs from Halifax, to Vancouver Island, to the Yukon.
Inspired
by the Hillbilly and Western Swing music he heard as a child, Tim absorbed late
Fifties Rhythm & Blues and Rock & Roll, Hawaiian and Mexican music,
early Sixties Folk, and Bluegrass “like a sponge” before discovering a passion
for traditional blues styles which was fueled by seeing many first generation
blues musicians live during the “Blues Boom” of the mid and late Sixties.”

**********Paul Reddick
Irene’s Pub, 885
Bank Street
Friday, November 21
Paul Reddick has long been a part of Canada’s rich
roots music scene; he is one of the best harmonica players in the country…. His
distinctive voice covers a wide emotional palette; always engaging; sometimes a
shout, more often a conversationally vivid whisper. But it is Reddick’s songs –
sometimes sweet, sometimes bitter, always thought-provking and rarely
sentimental – and the passionate way he delivers them that best illustrate what
the influential British magazine ‘Mojo’ described as his “wayward brilliance”. …
he has been nominated for Junos and a Blues Music Award and he is a seven-time
Maple Blues Award winner. And he continues to tour – across Canada and the
United State, with two or three trips a year to Europe – with his hard-hitting
band.

Friday, November

Now
into their second decade and with one JUNO award and several JUNO nominations
under their belts, Black and the Rodeo Kings has organically evolved into one
of the finest roots-oriented bands in North America. They have released seven
CDs and gradually developed a feeling of brotherhood manifested in a sense of
groove, timberal blend and melodic and rhythmic play that is distinctive,
mystical, energizing and constantly evocative. Blackie and the Rodeo Kings
remains one of Canada’s greatest musical treasures.

Michael Kaeshammer
Neat Coffee House,

Kaeshammer’s fiery
style incorporates elements of his early influences – the New Orleans sound of
Fats Waller, Art Tatum and James Booker – on tracks like ‘Kisses In Zanzibar’
and the high-energy, boogie fuelled romp, ‘Rendezvous’, he also takes his cue
from one of his own all-time favourite records, Robert Palmer’s Sneakin’ Sally
Through the Alley, recorded in New Orleans with influential local funk outfit,
The Meters, in 1974. In short, it’s the musical equivalent of Gumbo

Bloodshot Bill
Irene’s Pub, 885
Bank Street
Friday, November 28
Bloodshot Bill started playing in his hometown of
Montreal, around 1998, with just a guitar and a stomp board. Since then, he has
had over 30 releases throughout Europe, USA and Canada – and still tours all
these places frequently. He was banned from entering the States for 5 years
(2006-2011) and made his first “(wel)comeback” show in USA at the Norton
Records 25th Anniversary Weekend, performing alongside such legendary (and
killer!) acts such as Andre Williams, The Sonics, 5678′s, Mighty Hannibal and The South Bay Surfers.
Since 2003 his hair has been slicked with his own brand of grease, “Nice ‘n’
Greasy”, and he plays his guitar through his custom made
one-of-a-kind Richtone Amp.
Usually travels alone as a one man band and absolutely wows the crowds
everywhere he plays!

Carolyn Fe Blues
Collective
Irene’s Pub, 885
Bank Street
Saturday, November
29
Carolyn Fe Blues Collective offers up
the Blues in all its shades …. A highly versatile, well-rounded performer,
Carolyn Fe possesses the deep soul of an artist who has lived on the fringe for
most of her life, and made the most of it as the true innovator she is, giving
her music and lyrics an insight and depth that cannot be imitated and must be
heard. She produces original material that contains lyrics with highly charged
emotions that only the Blues can surrender – from extreme loss and anger to
love-gone-bad or the languid sexiness of a hot summer night.
Backed by veteran musicians … the band’s delivery has
phrasing that at evokes deep sensations from the begging for love, the
hard-core-in-your-face of truth denied or the dreamy allure of pure seduction.
(Exerpted from a review by Sandy Graham in Cashbox)
The Carolyn Fe Blues Collective is touring in support
of their 3rd release, "Bad
Taboo".

Chris Antonik

Saturday, November
1 @ 8:30 pm; $15 by reservation
In 2010, Toronto-based blues guitarist, singer
and songwriter Chris Antonik arrived onto the National and International blues
scene with his self-titled debut album which received widespread critical
acclaim, placed in the Roots Music Report Top 100 charts for over a year, and
garnered Antonik a nomination for Best New Artist of the Year at Canada’s
national Maple Blues Awards. In 2010, in its year-end review, British
Columbia’s Blues Underground Network deemed Chris ‘The Future of the
Blues.’
After extensive touring and major blues festival appearances in
Canada in 2011 and 2012, Chris returned with his highly anticipated and
critically-acclaimed follow-up “Better For You” in March 2013, which solidified
Chris’ reputation as one of Canada's hottest young blues artists.
To live up to the accolades on stage, Chris delivers an
unbridled and passionate live performance that gives audiences more than their
money’s worth and leaves them wanting more. An exceptional guitarist who
has been compared to Clapton, a soulful singer and an inventive songwriter,
Chris is the real deal.

Ginger St. James
The Standeasy @ the RCHA Club, 193 Ontario Street, Kingston ON
Saturday, November 15, @ 8:30 pm; $10 at the door
Ginger
St. James never disappoints and the country-roots infused music that she writes
turns heads like the girl herself. Many roads travelled and many lessons
learned add up to provide the tales she tells with the sweetest voice, or
petulant growl depending on the number. Her life in song is a refreshing
array of sock hop greasers, classic country and touching insights to a very
real story. In a world where everything is freeze dried and wrapped in
plastic, Ginger St. James is very much like the farmers market – full of
friendly, hard-working folk proudly offering the fruits of their labour,
colours and aromas embracing all who approach. You would be forgiven in
assuming such a diminutive lass would struggle in the hardscrabble music
business, but her charm talent and tenacity is as infectious as the grooves and
rhythms that make those finely crafted lyrics come to life with so much
energy. Music lovers know a good thing when they hear it, and Ginger St.
James has the package that’s flying off the shelves.
