Driven by Trucks' signature slide-guitar sound and Tedeschi's honey-to-husk
voice, Tedeschi Trucks Band delivers an electrifying blend of blues, soul,
jazz, and rock drawing from an ever-evolving song list. Debuting big with “Revelator” landing a Best Blues Album Grammy as
well as a Blues Music Award for Album of the Year, Tedeschi Trucks Band
continued that momentum with 2012's dynamic live follow-up, “Everybody’s Talkin’”, showing

Combining
elements of Soul, Funk, and R&B - Delbert & The Commotionsʼdebut album entitled ʻLet Me See Ya Danceʻ
shows influences by such artists as Stevie Wonder, The Funk Brothers, and Bruno
Mars. The band prides itself in having an eclectic mix of songs on their
record, from soul, funk, rap, and even a bit of disco. Co-led by Canadian
saxophonist/songwriter Brian Asselin and Detroitʼs Delbert Nelson -
these two have put together twenty-one Canadian musicians to create an exciting
project that will keep you smiling and dancing from the beginning to the end.

One of the world’s most influential music producers – a
shaper of albums by likes of U2, Neil Young, Peter Gabriel and Bob Dylan - Daniel Lanois is
also the world’s best argument for working from home. From the time he started
his own recording studio at age 17 in his mother’s laundry room in Ancaster,
Ontario, to his storied home studio in Silver Lake, California (where he
recorded Neil Young’s “Le Noise” in 2010), wherever Lanois hangs his hat is
ground zero for great music.

Naomi
Shelton and the Gospel Queens find themselves performing more and more frequently outside
of their traditional church engagements. With momentum growing, they can be
heard every Friday night at the Greenwich Village club Fat Cat, as well as in
clubs and festivals as part of the Daptone Soul Revue. The power and raw
feeling in Naomi’s voice and the sincere benevolence of her character seem to
lift everyone within earshot when she sings. Her performances are commanding
the attention of a growing number of fans, reaching far beyond the pews. Though
the experience of hearing her sing can be truly transcendent for even the most
secularly minded listener, she has a simple and humble approach to what it is
she does.

During the 1970s, a new brand of
pop music was born - one that was steeped in African and African-American
styles - particularly jazz and R&B. Earth,
Wind & Fire were the elements
of this incredible musical alchemy that resulted in a Hall-of-Fame music career
spanning four decades. Earth, Wind & Fire concerts blast cosmic waves of
peace, love and other jubilant vibrations to audiences using eye-popping costumes,
lights, pyrotechnics and plain old good music. Sometimes they even throw in
magic illusions. Earth, Wind & Fire's message is one of universal harmony,
in both a musical and cultural sense.

Band has arrived at its 35th Anniversary, trumpet player Gregory Davis employs
a tried-and true New Orleans-centric analogy: “It ends up being like a pot of
gumbo – you drop in a little okra, drop in a little shrimp, you drop in some
crabs. Before you know it, you’ve mixed in all these different ingredients and
you’ve got a beautiful soup. That was our approach to music early on and it
still is today.”

Mississippi born Charlie Musselwhite is
one of the most revered blues musicians in the world. The harmonica master,
also a respected singer and songwriter in his own right, has won countless
awards during his legendary career including an induction into the Blues Hall
of Fame and collaborated with innumerable musical giants over the past 50
years. A fan of the harmonica virtuoso since childhood, Ben Harper begged an
introduction to his idol at Australia’s Byron Bay Blues Festival in 1996.
Despite the difference in age and background, the two hit it off immediately.
Since then, the two musicians have worked together over the years. Each time
Harper and Musselwhite played together it was lightning in a bottle.

Classic soul and R&B, jazz, and
British invasion form the backdrop for the quirky and irreverent brand of pop
for which Lake Street Dive has
become known. Combine this with the unstoppable joy of their live shows and
near viral collection of Youtube videos, and you get the sum of the Lake Street
Dive equation: pure pop music fun. Knock- your-socks-off vocals and virtuosic
instrumentals top it all off, and with the release of their third and
self-titled record on Signature Sounds, which Popmatters calls “a staggering,
monumental disc,” this Brooklyn based quartet is garnering a growing fan base
in and beyond their native East Coast. Incorporating the unlikely elements of
upright bass and jazz-inflected trumpet along with more traditional rock
staples, drum set and electric guitar, Lake Street Dive are equally at home in
a jazz club, a dive bar or a festival stage.

The Hornettes formed in 2010 in downtown Ottawa, where
they still rehearse every week. You can sometimes catch their funky, soulful
sounds streaming out of a particular downtown apartment every Monday night.
Fronted by two talented young ladies, Irina and Anna, whoser energy and
enthusiasm are at the centre of the Hornettes’ sound, they keep on charming new
fans with every performance. The musical heart of the Hornettes lies in the
rhythm section, with Norman “T-bird” Hladik on drums, Ryan “Bass Face” Forsberg
on bass and “Jazzy” Jeff deValk on guitar, and the horn section occupied by the
devastatin’ Ed Lister on trumpet and the perennially badass Brady Leafloor on
tenor sax.

second monthly jam series. Besides the current evening jam on the third Thursday
of each month, it also runs an afternoon jam on the first Sunday of the month.
Charley Gordon writes: "One of the hopes is that this afternoon jam
session will be attractive to students who, for some reason, generally avoid
taverns on weekday nights. Depending on attendance and other factors, we might
do some experimenting with format in this new jam."

Monday, June 30, 2-4:30 pm – FREE
Douglas grew up in Chicago and was surrounded by the
blues. His father Lovie Lee (Eddie Watson) played piano from 1979 until 1983,
in the last Muddy Waters Band. Carey Bell, Lurrie Bell and Eddy Clearwater were
close relatives who often shared the same address. Koko Taylor, who Douglas
refers to as his Godmother, was a friend of the family. Douglas played bass on
several recording sessions in Chicago by artists like Lovie Lee, Blyther Smith
and Vance Kelly. Douglas moved to London Ontario in 1989 and was known
primarily as a funky bass player. When Douglas began to sing and he started to
get noticed as both a vocalist and as an entertainer. His singing was so
impressive that he started getting gigs just to sing. He has a huge smile and
an even bigger voice. His vocal style combines the power of Muddy Waters with
the sweetness of Marvin Gaye. Later he moved to Kitchener and started his
current band, The Douglas Watson R & B Revue.
