their July tour of the UK, the Myers Brothers Band returns to Bass Line Station
on September 8 for an evening of juke joint blues and boogie not to be missed!!
Having fine-tuned their craft on their many road trips to the Mississippi delta, the band's music is inspired by the rhythmic grooves you'll hear in any urban or country juke joint on a hot Saturday night. You'd better bring your dancing shoes as you will want to let your hair down and party to the hypnotic sound of the Myers Brothers Band. The album, recorded in Ottawa late last year, features Mike Myers, Stevie Myers, Pepe Lopez Jr., and guest Mark Cole on harmonica.

Blues Band Challenge at Greenfield’s Pub, 900 Greenbank Road, Barrhaven.
The winning band will represent the Ottawa Blues Society in the Blues
Foundation’s 29th International
Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN, January 29 – February 2, 2013.
Qualifying rounds will be held on Wednesday,

Joplinesque
is thrilled to be heading to Pembroke, Ontario on September 8th to do a
fundraising show in memory of Dana Lisa Rondeau – or, as her friends knew her,
Dana Dreamer. Joplinesque lead singer,
Shelley Montreuil, grew up with Dana on Chamberlain Street in Pembroke so
Montreuil was quite surprised to hear that her childhood friend had received a
terminal diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia. Certainly a woman so young
should not have to even consider crossing this bridge!
Dana
had been wanting to get out and see Joplinesque in action – Janis Joplin was
one of her favourite performers – so Montreuil didn’t think twice about
bringing the show to her as a gesture of good friendship and hopefully as a way
to raise some money to help Dana with her expenses. Unfortunately, Dana succumbed to her leukemia
and far too soon … but the party is still on. This will be a celebration
of Dana’s life and still an opportunity to raise some funds to help cover her
costs.

David Vest is the real thing, raised in Birmingham, Alabama and the juke joints all along the Gulf Coast. He`s played with Big Joe Turner in the early ‘60s, toured with Jimmie ‘T99’ Nelson, Lavalle White and co-lead the legendary Paul deLay Band.
When he moved north of the 49th parallel, he entered the Canadian blues scene like a piano falling from the sky with incendiary performances at Edmonton and Calgary blues festivals. Making his home in Victoria B.C., he was enlisted by Bill Johnson to play on the Juno and Maple Blues Award nominated recording “Still Blue”. In early 2012, he was touring Ontario as a Maple Blues Award nominee and recording his first all-Canadian album.
What came together in Toronto on Mardi Gras Day 2012 wasn’t just history, it was magic. The ‘East Meets Vest’ tour began in July at the Tremblant International Blues Festival and will continue wherever the road might lead.

The 2012 Blues Festival Guide magazine 10th anniversary issue has arrived and blues fans
are devouring 100 pages packed full of festivals, blues history, lifestyle,
radio DJ and blues society listings, and more – the biggest issue yet.
Started in 2003, The Blues Festival Guide magazine
was a Media Sponsor of the 2003 government-proclaimed Year of The Blues. In
2006, three years later, “The Guide” received recognition from the Blues
Foundation by being a recipient of the coveted Keeping The Blues Alive award
for print media. That same year, they also received an award from the West
Coast Hall of Fame/Bay Area Blues Society for ‘Best Blues Publication of the
Year’.
This year, the artwork that graces the front cover
is by Jackson-MS based artist, Tony Davenport. The first half of the magazine
is the Festival Section with dozens of blues festivals including their line-ups
so blues fans can easily plan their festival season and a comprehensive Plan
