Rhythm & Blues, Motown, Stax, Rock, Funk, and all that great 60s and 70s music! Andre Bisson released “Rhythm & Blues Experience” in 2009. The emphasis on this CD is R&B and soul (old school, not ‘contemporary R&B’), no surprise given the title, but there’s also some blues mixed in. Andre Bisson is a relative newcomer to the blues scene. In his teens in Sault Ste Marie, he played rock ‘n’ roll, then R&B. In college, he studied jazz at Mohawk College in Hamilton, where he met the other members of the band, the J-Tones; all are professional musicians who have ‘day jobs’ teaching music.
Nine of the ten songs on the CD are originals; almost all the tracks on the CD are upbeat (‘Second Chance’ is the exception, with a smoky sax intro) and must fill the dance floor at live gigs. Come out and hear them live!

The Blues Foundation's 30th Blues Music Awards (2009)

The Blues Foundation is very proud to announce that the 30th Blues Music Award show is coming to public television. Memphis public television station WKNO is presenting a 90-minute television version featuring winners' acceptance speeches and performances available via the NETA (National Educational Telecommunications Association) satellite. Check with your local PBS station for the air time in your area!
This annual event, held in Memphis, TN, brings together Blues performers, industry representatives and fans from all over the world to celebrate the best in Blues recordings and performances from the previous year. Each year, the Foundation presents The Blues Music Awards to the artists selected by its members. They are universally recognized as the highest honour given to Blues artists.
There were great pairings like Marcia Ball & Irma Thomas signing ‘Same Old Blues’, Cedric Burnside and Lightin Malcolm with their tribute ‘RL Burnside’, and other highlights include the last performance of Koko Taylor singing ‘Wang Dang Doodle’ backed by Junior Watson on guitar and fellow nominees Larry Taylor (bass), Kid Ramos (guitar) and Richard Innes (drums). BB King was on hand to present the BB King Entertainer of the Year Award.
Other memorable performances on this 30th Anniversary special include a touching tribute by Janiva Magness to the late Little Milton on his tune ‘That's What Love Will Make You Do’, and a classic Chicago Blues jam with drummer Kenny Smith, harmonica player Willie ‘Big Eyes’ Smith, bassist Bob Stroger, guitarist Lurrie Bell, and others.

In the ‘80s, Baldry emigrated to Canada, living first in Toronto and then in Vancouver, where he died in 2005.
