Andy J Forest, harmonica & frattoir player, singer songwriter, has been playing harmonica and singing professionally since 1977. These recordings feature mostly Forest’s original songs. The latest CD “Real Stories: of Love Labor and Other Man Made Catastrophies” (on Slang Records) won "The Best of The Beat" Award for best Blues Cd of 2007 in New Orleans. After living in Europe for ten years he returned to his home New Orleans in 1991 where he plays in clubs yet frequently goes on tour in Europe and Canada. He has written scores of songs, one novel (Letter From Hell) and paints “outside” art, mostly of blues and jazz singers.
This weekend, Andy appears with Canada’s newest blues and roots band, MonkeyJunk. After placing 3rd in the IBC in Memphis in February 2009, they toured Canada and appeared at European festivals. In January they won five of the 6 Maple Blues Awards for which they were nominated and at the recent 10th Annual Independent Music Awards MonkeyJunk received the Indie Favourite Blues Artist/Group. They have also received a rare, for Canadians, Blues Music Award nomination for Best New Artist Debut.
Formed in late March 2008 in Ottawa, they play an original style of swamp boogie R&B, bedroom funk and love songs that will break your heart. Hello! Many of you are aware of Roots Music Canada; we began operations in November of 2009, and currently exist as a blog that aims to put into context what (and who) is truly worth knowing about in Canadian roots music.

Johnny Cash: Behind Prison Walls (1977): In this one of only two of Johnny Cash's prison concerts that were filmed for broadcast, "Johnny Cash: Behind Prison Walls" features the ten-time Grammy Award winner performing at the Tennessee State Penitentiary in Nashville in 1976. Special guests Linda Ronstadt and Roy Clark perform a selection of Cash's biggest hits, including ‘Folsom Prison Blues’, ‘Orange Blossom Special’, ‘A Boy Named Sue’ and Ronstadt's version of the Eagles' ‘Desperado’.
